University Hospital Network (UHN), Toronto
Thinking Systems, ADN Canada Inc., and UHN Jointly Announce Multi-Modality PACS Installation at Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto General Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital, and Women's College Hospital UHN logo

The Challenge

Continue to provide excellent service to patients at UHN’s multi-site hospital, while optimizing each reading physician’s time. Doctors needed to be able to remain at one site, but to read molecular imaging, nuclear cardiology and nuclear medicine for all locations.

The Solution

Through the use of the Thinking Systems modality broker, images done at each individual site are automatically sent to a central location. All studies are then sent to reading physicians who can interpret all images in one location. The modality broker will also pull all patients’ prior images from the hospital’s existing PACS and send them along with the new study.

The Results

Integrated nuclear medicine and traditional medical imaging modalities onto one PACS platform across the UHN network, and enhanced the quality of care at UHN, while also adding efficiencies and reducing costs.

The Challenge

Finding a functional PACS-RIS solution that would not require separate integration between two companies and that would provide a portal for referring physicians to allow them to view their patient’s images and report immediately after service. Pine Ridge X-Ray and Kawartha Diagnostic Imaging are multi-modality clinics that provide their patients with general radiology imaging in addition to nuclear medicine and nuclear cardiology. Having multi sites, they required a PACS and RIS that could provide them with a central reading location with all of the diagnostic tools needed for interpreting each modality.

The Solution

Thinking Systems NuGateway routes all images from remote sites to one central storage repository. Reading physicians are then able to access all images to read at any site using Thinking Systems web based PACS and RIS which provide comprehensive multi modality support. Thinking Systems WebLite provides referring physicians with the ability to view patient studies and reports remotely.

The Results

Increased efficiency of patient registration and storage of patient files, centralized patient studies to enhance availability and functioning for reading physicians, and provided easy online solutions for referring physicians to access patient files, immediately and hassle free.
